After a pre-wedding consultation and pre-wedding portrait the big day had finally arrived. I started with the groom and best man who had stayed the night at the Premier Inn in Watford. I took photographs of the groom and the best man then all of the ushers in front of the bar.
Julie the bride was getting ready at her home. Once I arrived at the bride's I was happy to see everything in the house was arranged with photography in mind. I had access to the dress and flowers to create great details that I can use in the coffee table album.
Once I had captured the lacing up of the back of the dress it was time to get to the church where guests were already arriving.
James and the best man along with some of the wedding party were already seated so I grabbed a photo of James eagerly waiting for the bride.
Flash photography was not permitted so I quietly observed the ceremony with my long lens so not to distract the proceedings. I took pictures from the back of the church but managed to miss the kiss so I asked a bridesmaid to get them to go for another kiss and it was even better.
I have been photographing weddings for a while and still keep some of my more traditional shots and I always like to pose the couple next to the open door of the church; without flash I get a great half silloete of the bride & groom.
I left early for Durrants House to get shots of the tables cake and other details that will tell the story. I had previously arranged with Durrants to use the window overlooking the gardens so I could get a big group shot of everybody together. Then onto shooting the smaller groups. The wedding party were formally dressed so I had to make sure the groups where displayed correctly. Julie & James had a hawk and owl flying to keep the guests entertained. I managed to get pictures of the guests holding them.
It was now time to start the receiving line and then onto the wedding breakfast. Once everybody was seated I had time too photograph couples at the tables. The main dining room is light and airy with huge bay windows so there was a fare amount of natural light to capture the speeches. I always use natural light where possible.
The cake cutting took place next to the old wooden staircase. Julie wanted me to capture throwing the bouquet. I positioned myself on the staircase and managed to capture the bouquet in mid air. I have not missed one yet although I have to say there is a little luck involved.
Lastly onto photographing the first dance. I went to see if Julie & James needed any more photographs taken then its time to make tracks.
